Children can develop a disorder known as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD. This disorder is actually one of the most common types of childhood disorders. It is important to know that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can continue well into adolescence and even adulthood. There are a number of symptoms that are associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder including difficulty focusing, difficulty paying attention, difficulty controlling your behavior and a feeling of hyperactivity or over activity.
There are three different sub types of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, which are a predominantly hyperactive-impulsive subtype, a combined hyperactive and impulsive and inattentive subtype and a predominantly inattentive subtype. The most common type of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is the combined hyperactive and impulsive and inattentive subtype. Children that have predominantly inattentive forms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder may appear quiet more than hyperactive, and so their inattentiveness may be overlooked. Children with this type of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder often never receive the diagnosis that they need, which prevents them from getting the medication or counseling that they need in order to get help.
There are many different treatment options when it comes to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but unfortunately there is not a cure for this disorder. Most people that are suffering from ADHD can lead completely productive lives with treatment, and they can carry out normal jobs and school. Researchers are constantly working to develop new and more effective treatments as well as interventions for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Brain imaging is allowing researchers to gain a better understanding of what ADHD and how it works so that they can find ways to prevent, treat and cure it. Time will tell when it comes to whether or not a cure can be found for this disorder, but every day scientists are researchers are taking positive strides in the right direction.
