There are few disabilities in children garnering more attention than autism these days. The mysteries surrounding the cause of the mental disability are still being figured out by researchers and scientists. Many theories abound as to why nearly one in every 150 males are born on the autism spectrum. The difficulties of understanding the disorder and compounded by the inability of many autistic children to accurately convey just what they are thinking and feeling.

This is partly because children with autism are visual thinkers and frankly don’t see things we see and see others we don’t. They do not perceive their environment through calculated preconceptions as we do. People will regular working brains know that we will not see a statue or a tower floating through the sky. We know if there is something above us it is most likely just a bird or a plane. An autistic child on the other hand would never take this for granted. They are able to pick up changes to an environment that others would not see simply because they don’t have a preconceived idea of what will already be there.

Autisic children have a difficult time in social situations. They may shy away from group and stay secluded so that they can blend into the background better. For anyone who knows an autistic child, they would know such an activity is a shame. Autistic children tend to be very gifted, excelling in areas of math and science where preconceptions are not importnat. Instead, they struggle in areas like anticipating the emotions of others or feeling proper empathy for those who are crying or sad.

Medical experts are always working towards undrstanding the impairment. The important thing for people with autism to remember is that they are different but equal to those around them. Take the time to understand these children and your mind will be blown by all that they see.
